Garmin - Andorid Nuvi App Dead ?

The NuviPhone is Dead... Garmin is brain dead as a result?

Garmin was once a powerhouse for personal navigation devices.  At one time they splashed huge with thier intent to build best-of-breed smartphones.   They have provided anemic offerings for both iPhone and WinMobile.  But currently offer nothing for an Android device other than via their abandoned efforts for their NuviPhone.  So I guess what we will see is for their navigation devices will appear more and more like their smartphone sisters?   But that is a dead-end.  We could so use a NUVI app on Garmin.  They had one up and working but seem to have simply closed that door?  This prototype became the design for Oregon, Montana, and Colorado handsets.  Unless Ausus has a cranky on regarding how Garmin treated their joint manufactured NuviPhones why can not they make this particular leap?

Schaffhausen, Switzerland and Taipei, Taiwan/October 26, 2010/Business Wire — Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN) and ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (TAIEX: 2357) today announced a strategic decision to alter their current co-branded business model for location-centric mobile handsets. The two companies will not introduce any new co-branded handset models going forward, but will continue to sell and support models that have already been introduced to the market. ASUS will design and manufacture new models of ASUS-branded mobile phones, some of which will include preloaded Garmin navigation and Location Based Service (LBS) applications. Garmin will expand its mobile handset application development and plans to offer navigation and other applications through certain consumer application stores.

Look for the NuviPhones to be added to long list of Garmin's discontinued list soon and Asus to release a Android based phone on it's own with similar software to the NuviPhone (proprietary).

Which could be the reason of no Garmin Android release. Divorces are messy for everyone even business.
