Open standard for geotagging SMS text messages
At the recent GITA ANZ conference in Sydney, Mark Reichardt, President and CEO of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) mentioned in his talk that the OGC's GeoSMS standard for geotagging SMS or text messages had been adopted and would be released as a full standard later in 2011.
There is a bit of confusion around the term "GeoSMS", but the major advantage of the OGC Open GeoSMS standard is that it is intended to be independent of hardware and software platform.
The OGC Implementation Specification is available.
