Camera phone sales will exceed 1 billion worldwide in 2011, project research firm Strategy Analytics— and the fastest growing segment will be phones with sensors of eight megapixels and above.
Worldwide camera phone sales will grow 21 percent from 918 million units in 2010 to 1114 million units in 2011, the company says. “This year will be the first time annual volumes of camera phones have exceeded the 1-billion mark.”
Phones with camera sensors of eight megapixels and above will grow 240 percent worldwide during 2011.
About 4.2 billion camera phones have sold cumulatively worldwide since 2000, the firm adds, making them “one of the most successful mobile products ever developed.”
