Motorola and a Hard Zoom?

Tablets are some of the most talked about devices on the market today with theiPad 2 and Motorola XOOM commanding much of that buzz. However while thesetablets may be packed with a ton of features that cater to a wide array of different people they are quite fragile just like smartphones.

I mean, just imagine dropping a XOOM or iPad 2 face down on concrete   from about 2 feet up. Yeah, it wouldn’t be pretty. This leads us to point out that there have yet to be any really rugged slate tablets powered by platforms like iOS orAndroid on the market thus far. However, if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that Motorola currently has the Android powered Defy smartphone on the market which features resistance to many things such as shock and dust. This has led many to wonder if they will be going on to release a rugged tablet seeing how they already have the XOOM on the market.

Well, recent reports suggest that Motorola is in fact working on a rugged Android tablet but it’s not set for the consumer market instead aimed at enterprising users. This, of course, doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be available to the average consumer but it does suggest that it won’t be as smooth around teh edges as the XOOM or iPad 2. What’s a bit different about this rumor is that we actually have a full set of supposed specs for the device.
Apparently it will feature a 7-inch transmissive touchscreen with 1024 x 600 resolution, dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 7GB of internal storage, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, 8 megapixel rear facing camera, Bluetooth, WiFi,HDMI and USB. It is also said to be powered by Google’s Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3.
Nothing was said of a release date, name or price point, but we’ll keep you posted.
